Attestation of Documents

This service is available only at the High Commission of India, 10, Springfield Road, Ottawa, Ontario K1M 1C9.

There is no need to take an appointment. Applicants may visit the High Commission on any working day between 09:30 to 12:30 am (except designated holidays). The services will be on first come first serve basis.

The High Commission reserves the right to reject attestation of documents, the contents of which are objectionable or contrary to the Rules.

Requirements

  1. Document to be attested in original, duly notarised, with one photocopy.
  2. Valid Passport and PR/Study Permit/Work Permit, as applicable in original, with a photocopy (if sent by mail the same should be notarized).
  3. Sufficient space should be left on the last page for attestation of document(s) by the High Commission.
  4. Fee as applicable, payable to the HIGH COMMISSION OF INDIA, OTTAWA by means of Bank Draft/Money Order only. The Fee is non-refundable.
  5. Application can also be sent either by mail or in person.
  6. If the document(s) to be attested is/are sent through mail, a self-addressed prepaid envelope must be provided for return of the document(s).
  7. Application Form for Miscellaneous Consular Services required to be filled up.

 

Time Taken :       Documents are accepted in the morning from 09:30 to 12:30 hrs. and delivered on the same day.
Mail-in application takes 3 working days upon receipt of documents.

Power of Attorney/Affidavits pertaining to sale, purchase, mortgage, transfer, gift etc. of real estate or moveable properties

The Power of Attorney POA) has to be submitted to the High Commission in original along with its photocopy.  The applicant is required to affix the photograph, at the end of the subject matter on the documents to be attested, followed by specimen signature below the photograph and signatures with name and address of two witnesses. Please ensure that the applicant signs on the same page as the main content of the document. The Indian national is required to come in person and sign the Power of Attorney in the presence of the Consular Officer.  The witness is not required to affix his/her photo or to come to the High Commission in person.  However, if the executant (s) is not able to come to the High Commission in person or the document, to be attested, is sent by mail, the same should be notarized and stamped by Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (DFATD, Govt. of Canada) at 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 1J1before sending the same to the High Commission.

Attestation of civil documents, affidavits

The Affidavit or other civil documents have to be submitted to the High Commission in original along with its photocopy.  The applicant is required to affix the photograph, at the end of the subject matter on the documents to be attested, followed by specimen signature below the photograph and signatures with name and address of two witnesses. Please ensure that the applicant signs on the same page as the main content of the document. The Indian national is required to come in person and sign the Affidavit in the presence of the Consular Officer.  The witness is not required to affix his/her photo or to come to the High Commission in person.  However, if the executant (s) is not able to come to the High Commission in person or the document, to be attested, is sent by mail, the same should be notarized and stamped by Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (DFATD, Govt. of Canada) at 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 1J1 before sending the same to the High Commission.

Commercial Documents

For attestation of commercial documents, the signatures of Notary Public are required to be authenticated and stamped by Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (DFATD, Govt. of Canada)at 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 1J1.  A copy of the passport or any other identification document of the Director of the company is required.  An authority letter on behalf of the company is required in case it is submitted by anyone else other than the Director of the company. 

C$ 80 + $2 (Consular surcharge) per document.
Total fee : C$ 82/-.

Attestation of Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Death Certificate issued by Canadian Govt.

The documents issued by Canadian Authorities like Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Death Certificate, Education Certificate will only be Attested once they are authenticated and stamped by Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (DFATD, Govt. of Canada) at 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 1J1

Will /Adoption documents :

For attestation of Will the person writing the Will needs to be present in the High Commission. The Will document is required to be notarized by the Notary Public.  If the person writing the Will is not able to come to the High Commission then  the notary signatures needs to be authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (DFATD, Govt. of Canada) at 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 1J1.
The Adoption document needs to be attested by Notary Public and further authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Canada (DFATD, Govt. of Canada) at 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, K1N 1J1

 

C$ 32+$2(consular Surcharge) = Total fee : C$ 34/-. (for Will)
C$ 16+ $2 (Consular surcharge) per document.
Total fee : C$ 18/-. (for Adoption) 

Documents issued by Indian Authorities

Birth, Death, Marriage and Educational Certificates etc. issued by the Indian authorities in India can also be attested by the High Commission provided the same have been authenticated by the designated officer of the State Government and validated by the Consular/Attestation Section of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi  at the address given below or any other agency approved by the Ministry of External Affairs. Driving License/Driving Experience letter

The High Commission does not authenticate Indian Driving license or experience letter. Applicants are advised to obtain written authentication of their Indian driving License or driving experience directly from the Driving licencing Authority of India

 

No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Minor's Passport in INDIA or Elsewhere:

This NOC is required to be submitted along with the passport application in India or abroad. If one parent residing in India is applying for a minor's passport, the parent/ parents residing abroad should send an affidavit on 'no objection', duly attested by the High Commission.
Or
If both parents are residing abroad and a legal guardian in India is applying for the minor's passport, both parents should send an authorization attested by the High Commission to the legal guardian authorized to apply for the passport. For download Specimen Annexure H& G clickhere

Requirements :

1) Original passport and copy(ies) of passport (first three and last two pages of the passport and any other page containing observation) should be provided.

2) Proof of residence (Any one of these, i.e., copy of utility bill (phone/electricity bill) or driving licences or lease deed (of residence), etc.

3) Copy of PR Card (both side) or Student Permit/Employment authorization letter (for Indian passport holders only).

Note : If the application is sent by mail, then all photocopies should be duly notarized.
